Overview
Samara University (SU) went operational in 2007/8 academic year with 1867 student population placed in three faculties, namely, the Faculty of Education composed of 12 departments, the Faculty of Business and Economics consisting 3 departments and the Faculty of Dryland Agriculture with 2 departments. The project plan of SU indicates that further faculties such as Health and Technology will be opened progressively. However, with the implementation of the revised curriculum (2008), the University is reorganizing its academic faculties and departments. Research and Study centers, such as the one intended and proposed, Center for Dialogue between Cultures and Rights (CDCR), are also part and parcel of the development of the University. In support to its academic faculties and departments, such centers would also serve the University as its arms to
reach the society at large with broader practical and research issues.
As one of the NPUs, SU takes the investment of Government Good Will as a fortunate opportunity and stands committed to contribute to the realization of the national vision through providing competent professionals with civic commitments and good citizenship. Furthermore, SU’s opportunities are also rooted in its physical location-Afar Region potentially rich for research undertakings in historical, cultural and natural environments. It is also conceivable that in addition to the development endeavors of the country, the intact development potentials of the Afar Region are assets to the well functioning of SU.
