Mizan-Tepi University is located in two towns: Mizan Teferi and Tepi. The main campus is in Mizan Teferi, the largest town and administrative centre of the Bench Maji Zone in the Southern Nations Nationalities Peoples Region. It is situated 565 Kilometers south west of Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia.
The university is founded in a stunningly beautiful part of Ethiopia endowed with dense forests, wildlife, waterfalls, rivers, and a wide variety of fruit and spices. The university campus is near to the home land of coffee, Kaffa. Forest conservation traditions followed by the local people help to maintain the year-long rains that give the area its name “the lung of the country.
